Our
2005-06 Season
Third Play of Season Acclaimed by Critics and Audiences Alike
West
Coast Jewish Theatre presented
the World Premiere of "Zero
Hour", written by and starring Jim Brochu
as Zero Mostel, and
directed by Paul Kreppel. It opened at the
Egyptian Arena Theatre in Hollywood on July 7 and closed
on August 27,
2006. Jim Brochu created a larger-than-life Zero Mostel in this hilarious, poignant and dramatic look at one of the greatest performing artists the world has known. Zero originated roles in many famous productions including Tevye in "Fiddler on the Roof", Pseudolus in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum", and Max Bialystock in the classic film "The Producers".
Jim's acting career has taken him to regional stages all over the United States. Plays he wrote have included "The Lucky O’Learys" with Helen Hunt and Kathleen Freeman, "The Lady Of The House" with Rue McClanahan, and the off-Broadway smash-hit musical "The Last Session", which he also directed. His recent performance in Los Angeles in his original musical play "The Big Voice - God or Merman?", (with composer-partner Steve Schalchlin) won the second of two coveted Ovation Awards from the LA Stage Alliance. Recently, Jim Brochu’s caricature was hung on the wall of Sardi’s Restaurant in New York, a singular tribute to a thirty-year show business career as an actor, writer, director and producer.
Director Paul Kreppel has many New York and Regional Theatre credits. He most recently directed the critically acclaimed "The Two and Only" at the Colony Theatre and is preparing that show for a Broadway opening in the Fall at the Helen Hayes Theatre.
The Egyptian Arena Theatre is located in Hollywood at 1625 N. Las Palmas, 2 blocks east of Highland Avenue and 1/2 block south of Hollywood Boulevard. There is convenient commercial parking adjacent to the theatre.
There are a limited number of performances of "Zero Hour" left and we anticipate that tickets will be in demand.
